Singapore, 14 July 2022 – Raffles City Singapore has launched Project Green to galvanise the community to adopt a greener lifestyle.
Comprising a series of recycling programmes, educational content and upcycling workshops, Project Green is aimed at encouraging Raffles City’s stakeholders – including shoppers, tenants and hotel guests – to take action to fight climate change. Highlights include the Green Corner, a recycling hub where the public can drop off their e-waste, used plastic drink bottles and aluminium drink cans for recycling; as well as Project Green Showcase, which features the sustainability journey of Raffles City and its retailers, with interactive touchpoints, such as the sustainability pledge corner. Raffles City is also partnering like-minded tenants on engagement initiatives to multiply the efforts of Project Green.
“By providing our retailers, office tenants and hotels a suitable platform via Project Green to expand on their green offerings, Raffles City aspires to make a bigger positive impact for the environment and make sustainable living a part of the daily lives of our shoppers and stakeholders.”

To commemorate the launch of Project Green, a sustainability-centric showcase will be held from 8 July to 25 September 2022 at Raffles City’s Level 3 atrium space, offering an engaging series of educational content, green activities and upcycling workshops.
The Project Green Showcase highlights Raffles City’s sustainability journey and goals, aligned with CapitaLand’s 2030 Sustainability Master Plan. Shoppers are invited to participate at the various segments which showcase Raffles City’s sustainability partnerships with like-minded tenants from food & beverage, beauty and fashion. Through this platform, shoppers can learn and engage with the various sustainability initiatives and efforts by international retail brands, such as Nespresso, L’OCCITANE and Furla as well as local brands, GINLEE and Little Match Girl. As part of the Raffles City integrated development, stakeholders Fairmont Singapore & Swissôtel The Stamford are on board to present their sustainability initiatives as well.
Over the two-and-a-half months period of Project Green Showcase, shoppers can participate in Nespresso masterclasses, L’OCCITANE upcycling workshops and panel discussions on food waste. At the sustainability pledge corner, they can weave an art mural with recycled and upcycled fabric yarns to support Raffles City’s bid to enter the artwork for the largest textile yarn installation under the Singapore Book of Records. The art mural aims to drive awareness of fabric and textile waste issue and to convert awareness into a call for action.
Designed with recycled materials from the mall’s past Christmas decorations, the set-up of Project Green Showcase includes a tree as its design centrepiece and two retrofitted bicycles that shoppers can use their pedal power to turn on the lights.
There will also be an Adopt-A-Tree initiative helmed by The Providore, giving shoppers more ways to take part in Raffles City’s sustainability efforts. This initiative aims to re-populate the forests of Borneo and Sumatra, with each tree planted removing an annual average of 22kg in carbon emissions.
Raffles City will also be introducing “Bagless Fridays”, where shoppers are encouraged to Bring Your Own Reusables (BYOR) to contribute to a “waste-less culture” in the mall. Participating tenants will not be offering shopping bags on Fridays as a way to reduce plastic and paper bags usage and wastage.

Raffles City Green Corner, Basement 2
The Raffles City Green Corner is a specially planned recycling hub located at Basement 2 lift lobby A. Besides facilitating recycling, this zone integrates interactive educational displays, recycling vending machines, and recycling and e-waste bins. The Green Corner also features a Bag Sharing Station, where shoppers are encouraged to drop off their unused paper bags for other shoppers to take and use. Made from mainly recycled fit-out materials, the décor of Green Corner will be refreshed every quarter.
Raffles City Green Features
Raffles City has been designed and built with green features since 1986, including skylights to bring in natural daylight, rainwater harvesting facilities to support its cooling towers and fire tank, and roof gardens as part of its urban rooftop landscaping. Through the years, Raffles City has continued its energy conservation commitment through the adoption of energy efficient LED lighting and use of photocell sensors at its naturally lit atrium spaces.
Moving forward with its sustainability goals, Raffles City, which has been certified as a Water Efficient Building by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) and BCA Green Mark GoldPLUS by the Building & Construction Authority (BCA), is also incorporating more sustainable practices to reduce its carbon emission, and increase its water and energy conservation with smart irrigation systems and more efficient air-conditioning systems.
One of the four roof-top gardens has been converted to a sustainable organic farm that provides the various food and beverage establishments, and events in the hotels a steady harvest of fresher than organic produce, including the industry’s first urban aquaponics farm where fish and greens are grown in one integrated system at Fairmont Singapore & Swissôtel The Stamford since 2019. This was previously the site for the hotels’ herb and vegetable garden back in 2009, which was also one of Singapore’s pioneering urban farming projects.
As the hotel components of Raffles City Singapore, Fairmont Singapore & Swissôtel The Stamford have also made a pro-active commitment towards a plastic-free business operation with the aim to remove all single-use plastic items from all touchpoints of the hotel guest experience by the end of 2022.
Raffles City is also looking forward to work with more like-minded, eco-conscious brands, like L’OCCITANE, which recently unveiled its first eco-concept store at Raffles City. Designed with more than 80% recycled materials, the first-of-its-kind boutique is also a hub for waste-reduction initiatives and recycling programs.
